Cary Rajinder Sawhney is an emerging UK Screenwriter and Filmmaker. He studied a BA (Hons) Degree in Photography, Film & Television at University of Westminster and recently completed a Film Directors course at Metropolitan Film School. He was selected for the Berlin Film Festival Talent Campus in 2013. Cary has written and directed three short films including Looking For You which screened at 12 film festivals internationally and KHAANA which won two prestigious US awards and screened at 19 film festivals worldwide. His latest film is A Secret Heart, which is going out to film festivals in 2016. Cary has also written three feature length screenplays, one of which is in development.
Cary Rajinder Sawhney is also a former professional photographer and one of the UK’s leading Asian film festival programmers. He was formerly Head of Diversity at the British Film Institute for seven years, where he conceived and led the UK’s largest ever South Asian festival – ImagineAsia (2002). He then became Head of Programmes at contemporary arts organisation INIVA (Institute of International Visual Arts), before turning freelance in 2007. Cary is currently involved in organising several prominent film festivals including Founder and Executive Director of the London Indian Film Festival, and South Asian Programme Adviser to the BFI London Film Festival. He is a BAFTA member and Fellow of Royal Society of Arts and Manufacturing (RSA).
